Trade Union Warning of Job Losses

As the government seeks to make further cuts in public spending to help reduce the budget deficit, union bosses are warning that large numbers of public sector jobs will be lost. In fact the GMB trade union has estimated that 200,000 jobs will be cut by councils in England this year.

More Losses for British Airways

2010 ended much as it started for British Airways with the chaos caused by the bad weather netting further losses for the beleaguered airline. For BA bosses it has been pretty much a year to forget with a series of problems haunting the company.

University Applications On The Rise

The Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (Ucas) say that applications for University are on the rise, so far there has been an rise of 2.5% in applications to UK universities, compared with last year’s level.
The main reason for this is believed to be the rise in tuition fees that will be taking place in 2012, with students wanting to apply before this happens.
The surge in applications will surely bring a large strain on the available university places.

Less Cities See Unemployment Drop

In the month of October, unemployment rates fell in over half of America’s biggest cities. In November, however, they actually rose in almost a third of them. As a result, the hiring outlook in the United States is mixed. Out of three hundred seventy-two cities in a recent Labor Department report, the jobless rate went up in one hundred eight, while reaming the same in sixty-four. This is the smallest number of improved cities since July.

Are Unemployment Benefits Expiring?

Almost two million of us will have lost or will lose unemployment benefits by the end of the year. It could be a dark holiday season for many. One union electrician told a reporter that he’s not looking forward to Christmas. He can’t afford a tree or gifts for his family in Northeastern Ohio.

London Chaos After Tuition Fee Violence

PM David Cameron has condemned tuition fee protesters after yesterday’s (9th December 2010) violence where the Prince of Wales and Camilla’s car was attacked.
The couples car was damaged while on its way to the royal variety performance as protesters cracked windows and threw paint on the Rolls-Royce after it became separated from its police escort.
Prime minister, David Cameron, has condemned the violence as “unacceptable”. “It is shocking and regrettable that the car carrying the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall was caught up and attacked in the violence.”

Economists Say Tax Deal Should Spur Job Growth

Recently, the President of the United States struck a controversial deal with the Republican members of Congress. Overweight Job Searches Postpone Searching Until They Lose Weight

Jobseekers who are overweight may be postponing their search for employment until they lose some of their holiday pounds.  Statistics have shown that people who are overweight, likely earn less and can be overlooked for promotions and jobs, while thinner workers aren’t.  They also don’t want employers to look upon them as additional health risks due to the weight.

Better Employment Opportunities Forecast In 2011

Job markets are brightening a little for 2011.  About 3% more jobs are opening up and the consulting and financial sectors may provide the most jobs.  Joe Light reported that if employers could feel better regarding taxes, political strategies and health care costs, they would consider hiring more.
Their concerns aren’t totally focused on the economy at this stage, so that’s a good start to recovery.  Concern over other restrictions to their business growth remains.
