In the month of October, unemployment rates fell in over half of America’s biggest cities. In November, however, they actually rose in almost a third of them. As a result, the hiring outlook in the United States is mixed. Out of three hundred seventy-two cities in a recent Labor Department report, the jobless rate went up in one hundred eight, while reaming the same in sixty-four. More jobs are on the chopping block this month, as NASA gave pink slips to more than 1,200 employees on October 1, according to reports by ABCActionNews.com
These layoffs come with an effort to dwindle the number of employees that are on the payrolls, as the Space Shuttle program retires. When the program is terminated for good in 2011, 9,000 employees are expected to be laid off. A big majority of those being laid off are ones that were with the program in the 1980s.
